What is at home care? At home care is really any treatment or services your child receives at home from a licensed therapist, nurse, aide or doctor. At RSVP Home Care we specialize in respiratory therapy and provide durable medical equipment so that you can keep your child at home and provide them with the equipment they need. At home care may include help from nurses, therapists, caregivers and or hospice or palliative care.
Home care often includes nurse’s services. These services are different for each child. You may have a nurse who comes on a regular basis to check on your child’s progress, check vital signs and make sure everything is progressing properly. They may check medications and make sure you have all the medical equipment and supplies you need. They may also come to perform a specific task such as IV treatment or wound care. You may also have a private duty nurse who stays with the family from a few hours a week to 24 hours a day. Nursing services may include one or more of the following type nurses:
Many types of therapy can be preformed at home. The list includes: Respiratory therapy, physical therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Vision Therapy and play therapy to name a few. Your therapist will work with other therapists and your doctors and nurses to help facilitate an atmosphere where your child will be comfortable and have the best quality of life.
Sometimes a child or family will need help at home from other aides and professionals. They may or may not qualify for nursing services or other therapists. Caregivers and Aides help with the activities of life such as administering medications, housekeeping and sometimes respite care. A Caregiver or Aide may help directly with your child or they may help around the house doing cooking or cleaning to free up your time.
Palliative care nurses can provide services during the end of your child’s life or during the your child’s entire lifespan. They combine many different talents to meet your child’s needs including pain management, family counsel, music or art therapy and massage. It is not uncommon to receive palliative care during your child’s entire life span in some instances.
As you can see home care involves many different aspects of your child’s life and the services can involve you and your family. Home care often makes keeping your child at home possible.
